Bio

Julie Anna Alvarez Rivera is a Career Specialist with Fordham University School of Law's Graduate Professional Development Program. In that role, Julie Anna  provides career development counseling to international LL.M. students and other non-J.D. Masters degree students.

Previously, Julie Anna was Senior Career Development Manager at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. as part of the firm's Professional Development and Training Department team. In this capacity she focused on Career Development programming including orientations, conferences, and panels for attorneys at the firm across practices and seniority levels.  Immediately prior to joining Paul Weiss, she was the Director of Alumni and International Career Services at Columbia Law School's Office of Career Services and Professional Development. 

Julie Anna was elected in April 2016 to the NALP Board of Directors for the 2016-2018 term representing the Northeast Region. In that capacity, she also acted as Board Liaison to the International and Advanced Degree Advising and Recruiting Section, as well as the Diversity & Inclusion Section. 

Additional prior NALP service includes election to the NALP Nominating Committee for 2014-2015 as the Northeast Region Schools representative. She was Co-Chair of the NALP Law School Alumni Career Services Section for 2012-13 & 2013-14. Previously she was the Vice Chair of the LSACS Section's Alumni Quick Tips Working Group during 2011-12 under the direction of founding Co-Chairs Marta Ricardo (Columbia) and Jeanine Dames (Yale). She has been a frequent contributor to the NALP Bulletin, the LSACS Quick Tips webpage and panels at the Annual Education Conferences. She authored the chapter on "Working with Alumni" in NALP's Third Edition of the "Perspectives on Career Services" book.

Julie Anna began her career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore as a Corporate Law Associate after having summered there. She later became an Associate with Weiss Dawid Fross Zelnick & Lehrman (now Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu) specializing in Trademark, Copyright and Entertainment Law. After leaving private practice, Julie Anna has served in a variety of positions including: legal counsel to a small non-profit, diversity management consultant, Associate Director of the Legal Referral Service at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, Assistant Director of Admissions at New York Law School and Associate Director and Director at the Career Planning Center at Fordham University School of Law (2006-2010). She joined the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in October 2010 as Assistant Director and Alumni Outreach Coordinator within the Office of Career Services and was later promoted to Director of Alumni Career Services, a role in which she remained through May 2017.   She joined Columbia Law School in June 2017. She has also worked in non-law degree related positions with Dale Carnegie Training and as founder of a design consulting practice. 

Julie Anna earned her A.B. cum laude from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. She is a native New Yorker.
